sorry, but you cannot update with the patch without the CD. The Cd has specific files that are used to update the game engine. (this is common with the newer games, so that you don't have to load all sorts of stuff on your harddrive that is not necessary to actually play the games)

I do not play warcraft, so I know nothing about any try before you buy offer. If you do have a such a download, then you cannot patch it with anything other than a demo patch or patch designed specifically for the trial version you have.

WarCraft 3 (As do all Blizzard games) are very lax with their CD-Keys. Generators for them are easy to come by.

HOWEVER: Blizzard's Battle.Net servers require authentication of the CD-Key. Translation: 99.9% of all the keys a generator will create won't work to play online.

Don't even try. I have a copy of WarCraft 3. It's a great game, I'd love to play it online, however, since I have approximately no money, I can't afford luxuries like that. Instead, I offer my services to beat down other members of the Dorm in a LAN game.

Yup.. try before you buy but not online

That is the reason I purchased Battlefield 1942 recently. That game is one that is online fun for hours and hours endlessly.. and since I will be able to get all the updates.. it was well worth it.

But battlefield 1942 was a demo and the patches were specific for that demo.

It is a very fun game.

Very true LPDad.. I guess they want to keep the demo going.. which is really cool considering they dont need to since the game is out on shelves. Good marketing perhaps?
