Doom3 tweak!

ello..

for anyone coming up short on this beaty of a game, try this little tweak i came accross:

In your DOOM 3 directory, find "DoomConfig.cfg" (x:\Program Files\Doom 3\base). Open DoomConfig.cfg in Notepad.

Find the line:

seta image_cacheMegs "32"

chane the number to whatever you want.. all it does it increase the amount of ram doom3 uses to load textures and stuff! neat!

i changed my to 128 since i have 512mb ram and plenty of hard disk to cache!

it really helped to improve game speeds and also loading times .. usually about 10 seconds quicker to load and no jerky graphics..

sometimes youll notice banding of graphics but thats only when there are mre than 4 attackers.. which isnt that common in the first 3 stages untill you get to the room with the guy dangling off the roof with his guts hanging out... euck!

I look forward this release . I'm currently playing FarCry, and I hope to have completed the game by the time that DooM3 arrives here.

oh man, i tried farcry, and no matter how much i tried to play that game i just couldnt get into it.

yes the graphics are shiny and everything but gaphics do not make a game.. youll find that any serious gamer will tell you the gameply is the most important aspect... why do you still find people addicted to the very first C&C.. not the graphics for sure.. the gameplay is stunningly simplistic but addictive to a T!

so as i was saying, farcry deserves recognition for its great graphics, virtually endless zoom through the binoculars, but its just a shiny package covering a sour and simplistic gameplay.

to date i havent come accross AI tat beats the original Half life.

Doom3 is possibly shinier than farcry, if thats possible, but still retains its awesome gameplay, the virtually endless heart stopping moments and atmosphere just raise it 10 steps above anything else out there.

so.... farcy is just that... a far cry from being in my collection..

You have to play a little more with FarCry. The AI is very good, merchs will hide from you, or ask for help when they're alone, or cover each other. The AI of HalfLife was awesome, I really enjoyed playing HalfLife, but FarCry raised the bar . However Trigens s*ck IMO...

Also I like that you can move forward in different ways. Since most scenarios are open areas, you can try different ways to approach. I like that freedom. You can try to sneak without being seen, do a frontal attack Rambo style, play sniper... You choose. Even on closed areas there's usually more than one way.

Anyway this thread was about DooM3. I have read that I works well even with a GF4-MX. I have a GF FX5900-XT, so I guess I'll be able to play at 1280x1024 medium detail . So cool in my shiny new LG 17" TFT 16ms . Does it have multi-player?

Im going with KF on this one. FarCry has good AI but the gameplay i dislike. It doesnt feel solid or tight. AI and gameplay i go for and sadly if it doesnt make both at once, thumbs down.

But that tweak ill need. I had to crank everything down in the grahpics department but doesnt matter. Im so close to the end.

BTW: What about the image_useCache line. Wouldnt that be the cache toggle option?

I LOVE FarCry also....Took a little effort to get into it, but once I got started.....

DOOM is Simply Awsome.

With the possible exception of Doom3...I have Died and gone to HEAVEN!!!...Damn Doom3 keeps pulling me the other direction.

ill check those links out but i wont be trying anything in regards to cheats untill i finish the game myself... i see no point in spoiling the game.......yet..lol
