DOOM 3 already making waves on BT
I found this quite amusing.
Last night i was browsing the old BitTorrent boards looking for some Photoshop related ebooks and i came accross Doom3 in the games section... isnt doom3 supposed to be released on the 6th! i htought.. so i checked.. looks like its the 8th for uk. but anyway.. i read a few nfo files on doom3 release and it seemed that it was a full rip but had no cracks or patches.. so a pretty pointless download for anyone who wants it.. now this was the amusing part. within an hour of that release, i went back to the site and checked on how many people were trying to dowload it and i doubt youll need convincing how big the que was. ANOTHER release had been uploaded INCLUDING a keygen, manuals and all cheats! It really is amazing how these guys work so fast to crack software that software houses spend months and years trying to encode with the latest anti piracy measures. My doom3 is on pre-order, has been for 2 months.. but its sooo tempting to do the download... so very very tempting. ok someone restrain me... eek! rant!KF

Hi KF, I could not restrain myself.
Got it this morning (I have about 4 hours this morning free, after that I won't have anyu more free time to play until Thursday afternoon-- so I had to try to get a little play in) Let me tell you this game looks AMAZING, and Plays Wonderful. I will, of course, be Purchasing my copy on Friday. This is just too good a game to not support. And of course you must have a legit copy to play on-line-- too bad I won't have much free time to play until summer is over.

ROFL I think it's you ammount of RAM. 512k are not good even for Doom 1 I think ![]() [//OFFTOPIC] Now serious. There were reports that this thing was playable with at least FX5700 ULtra or Rad 9700. But seriously there's still no video out there that would play the game on Ultra Quality settings. Again reckon this is just what I read, my old TNT2 won't play anything here so.... |

KF, it should easily run on your system.
Originally it ran very choppy on my latest Creation: Athlon64 3000+ Abit Max board 1 GB Corsair XMS RAM Leadtek nVidia 9500XT DirectX 9.0c Backed off and Installed the previous nVidia drivers. Changed my vid card preferences (in the nVidia menu) from Quality to "best performance". Disabled my multi-monitor setup (so that the vid card was driving only ONE monitor) AND Turned off EVERYTHING Else running in the backround (ESPECIALLY if you are runing Norton2004---Shut it down as it will really slow things down to a crawl) Now the game runs FLAWLWSSLY on HIGH Settings with all the options (eye-candy) turned on., Since then I have turned everything back on except for my nView (multimonitor) and I have kept the nVidia menu settings to "best performance-- and I have not had a problem. I know you are running ATI, and I am not really familiar with the ATI setup options, but you might check out what you have to play with. ALSO...make sure you increase your SWAP File (cache) for windows-- I don't know exactly what the number is (I am currently at work), but I noticed that D3 needs a good amount of Cache to run properly. I will be trying the game out on an AthlonXP 2500+ system with 512 mb RAM and an nVidia MX vid card--- just to see if it will work. If you are using Norton 2004, MAKE SURE YOU SHUT IT OFF.-- nothing but problems there....go back to 2003. Good luck.

Hey Lp,
thanks for the tips.... btw, do you know how to get the console working? im asuming ill need to put some kind of switch on the exe file. i want to run dooms benchmark option to see what the different settings will give me... oh yeah and im just about to install doom 3 to my laptop to see how well it bodes on here.. its a p4 3.06ghz, 512DDRram, 64DDRVram Radeon 9700.. hopefully it will run well enough.. oh yeah and about the swap file.. is there any way i can set it so that when i run doom the swap file increases automatically?what size would be ideal for doom3? oh yeah did you try out the arcade machine in the canteen section of doom3! funny! also the original doom is bundled with doom3.. you have to type in a command in the console to get at it! neato!ragards KF ps. LPdad is now on my list for asuming i run Norton 2004!

Yup i didnt resist. I took the 1.75 gb worth of doom 3 goodness. Im gonna buy the game but screw it im gonna enjoy it. Its not a system hog like everyone said it would be. A radeon 9600 or geforce 5600 would work good with it. And im using a 9000.

this is kind of amusing
ive just turned my desktop machine on after a long 4 hour session of doom 3 last night and the pc wont boot..lol...doom seriously KILLS! im now using my laptop while my desktop is in safe mode copying all essential files to my backup drive. Luckily i made a ghost backup of my drive a few months ago so i can do a quick restore! yay! hopefully doom should run better after i update the drivers now. another 57mins to go to copy 7 gig off my desktop onto e: drive... blah. kf

LOL...What a bunch of Devian Kids we are.
Well, my OFFICIAL BOXED COPY (paid for in full, by me just arrived from www.newegg.com so I can honestly say that I am fullying supporting ID sofware and this amazing game)To get to the console you type CTRL+ALT+~ (thie Tilde~ key) Here is a Great Link on how do tweak and RUN the Timedemos: http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm BTW, if you have not heard, be very careful with the mods you try: Already there has been an incident where a guy posted a mod for running in coop mode, but when people installed the mod and went to a specific server, there DOOM3 Crashed and they had their CD Keys STOLEN.
