Smile Mouse hang up in UO

I have been playing UO for a year now and about 3 weeks back I have started toexperience this:
Mouse after about a minute into game;hangs up and freezes for 3 seconds every 50 seconds.Keyboard can stop working after awhile too.......
-windows xp
-compaq presario 5330us
-512 MB
-1.74GHz
-IntellP4 cpu

Keyboard =a replacement memorex,plugs in back,non usb
Mouse=Logitech,plugs in back nonusb

I have reinstalled game 3 times,replaced cable connection via comcast technican,had him inspect my power flow,chkd every angle possible.....
One thing, I found at a dell website, that Microsofts sp1 that recently came out was messing up logitech ps/2.....

Extremely lost here and can't afford to take it in for an overhaul....had it just under 2 years.

Thank You

I have a Logitech trackball (better for gaming IMO) connected to PS/2 port (I need all my USB 2.0 ) and no problems here, but I don't have that game UO whatever it is .
Anyway if the problem is OS related, I guess that any game and the OS itself should behave the same. Does this happen? Have you tried with the latest MouseWare?

I meant if you downloaded the latest drivers form Logitech. This is something you could try, but versions above 9.41 don't have some features found up to this version (like Hypermenu.)

Are you sure its just the mouse that freezes and not the whole game?

I played UO for a long time.... and never experienced this problem.

But something recently that happened to me is an entire game would just feeze randomly for a few seconds .. and then run again. Turns out it was my video card .. and the 3d engine on the card burned out. Possibly could be something else besides the mouse and keyboard? Does this happen in any other game?

Intresting way to look at it, maybe,just maybe,the game freezes....I was under the impression it was the mouse and keyboard because:

1....The mouse freezes up,and game itself continues..ie;I get stomped by a dragon while hung up.....

2,,,Keyboard will totally cease to function....

I gathered the 2 work close together back there behind the computer.....If I can figure out where this 3D thing is....I'll check it.
I appreciate the time and advice as well.

One way to test your 3d Engine is to go to http://www.fileplanet.com and download the AquaMark 3d test program. Its free and it will run through a series of tests. If at any time it freezes completely you may have a problem with your vid card.

You mentioned that you get stomped by a dragon etc.. do you actually see it happen or does it chop.. and hten you are dead instantly?

If you still see your character moving around when your mouse and keyboard stop then its not your game freezing.

I'm going to go and check out that website momentarily,...my character freezes up...(yeesh) hate to think what this is gonna cost me.
Know what else I'm noticing??....this goofy vertical line that sits where your letters go as you type...either its blinking too fast or it's sputtering.....I actually forgot where to go to set that blink rate....(age)....I'll post the results of that website test.
