Depends...
I think it depends... If this new PS handheld is 64 bit and has a more than modest amount of games behind it, contains a backlit screen and quality audio speaker, compact, etc... then I believe that as long as its less than 100$ it will blow the GBA out of the water (as long as nintendo doesn't get their 64 bit handheld out first.....

The problem is that once you have some games (which are expensive), changing a new console and buying again some games is too expensive. Unless it's really awsome and price is fair, I'll stick to GBA
.BTW some time ago I saw on a website how to convert a PS One into a handheld (with the CD-ROM freely spinning in the air), and some other modifications to consoles to convert them to handheld it was cool.

The same old story of Playstation 2 and X-Box i think, Nintendo has many more games available which makes a very big diference!
Even if the new hadheld playstation had better graphics, sound etc. GB Advance SP would still lead the competion simply because it has more games and his around for a longer time (which probably mean it would be cheaper than the new console, competition does wonders to the price of things...) And certainly Nintendo already has the next gen handheld console in it's sleeve. But I'm with Cirga, I have always prefered computer games to handheld consoles (or normal consoles for that matter). Games come cheaper )

The best analogy is the difference between the N64 and the original Playstation.
Playstation came out first. Had tons of games and was loved by maney. N64 came out. Vastly superior system in pretty much every way imaginable. And yet, the PlayStation still outsold the N64. Even as great games, like Smash Brothers and GoldenEye and Mario Kart 64 and such made their way to N64, the sheer volume of the PlayStation library made it stay on top. Now. Replace the words "Playstation" with "GameBoy", and "N64" with "Whatevertheydecidetocalltheportibleplaystatio n", and the game titles with whatever they plan on giving to the new handheld, and you've got yourself an analogy. Oh, and I predict the PlayStation will be the next Game Gear. Totally cool, and yet hated for a totally stupid feature being overlooked. In the Game Gear's case, it was the fact that 4 AA batteries lasted 10 minutes. But that's just me. The newest game system I own is the... uh... N64...

I have one of those Game Gears somewhere
. It was really cool when I got it (like 10 years ago, man so much time!) but I had to use the batery pack (external rechargable batery), because with standard bateries you couldn't play for too long (I think it needed 6 not 4). Games were very nice and the screen was awesome (still better than curreng GBA screens, not as much resolution, but with backlight.) I even had the TV tunner.

There are some minor rumblings about Microsoft looking into the handheld market too.
If this is the case, things could get ugly... I still say that any Disk-based portable will fail. Power usage, speed, shock sensitivity and such will be major shortcomings...
