ZoneAlarm Users

I noticed last week or so that the files in /Windos/Internet Logs were growing. After a little research I found that if you have a freeze or crash it will create a backup file called xxx1.tmp, xxx2.tmp..etc.
Well I had 40MB of these .tmp files...they can all be deleted without hurting ZA or your settings....I did keep the one called xxx1.tmp just in case...I had up to xxx41.tmp.

Anyway to do this:
  • Click on the ZA Tray Icon, click Overview..uncheck the Start with Windows box..say Yes for Shutdown.
  • Reboot.
  • Go to Windows/Internet Logs..delete all the .tmp files that you want (I kept 1).
  • Empty Recycle Bin.
  • Restrt ZA..click on Overview & check Start with Windows.
  • Reboot...thats all.

If you cannot delete the .tmp files..do it from Safe Mode.

From what I found out, a freeze, crash or corrupt database (ZA) will create these files.

If you go into the ZA menu and go to this tab,you can disable event logging.

Event Logging has nothing to due with the .tmp files..logs for this are .txt files...completely different. I had that off at 1st till 3.x came out, then it would no longer log Alerts, so I turned it on.

The logs are safe to delete also, there no biggie, it just logs what program changes or tries to connect...the tmp files are the biggie here.

Only delete the logs that say "ZALog"..not "fw".

Bullet hooked me up with Sygate. I had been using ZA free version for months. So far, I love Sygate. With it, I can insert those nasty ****/MPAA spy IP's and block them at the Firewall level. Very useful in today's time. :wink3

I use Sygate also, just not as much..I like ZA better..even if I have to type in all the IPs to block.

I think it should be possible to stop the truevector service, remove the files, and start it again.
