Cisco thinks that 40Gbps will be a possibility in just two years time. 10Gbps is already being tested and even used in some of the more technically demanding research labs. There is even a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance which was founded by people like Cisco, 3Com, Intel, Nortel and Sun.
