Question Blank media not recognized

I got a new computer several months ago and, for no apparent reason, the DVD/CD burner no longer recognizes blank media. It recognizes rewritable cds only intermittantly (as long as they are not completely blank).

I had this problem with a previous computer (an iMac) as well, but was never able to figure out how to fix it. I reinstalled the drivers and removed some software I though might be causing the problem, but to no avail.

Anyone out there ever have this happen to them?

Thanks for any helpful advice.

The burner could need cleaned, or the drivers might need to be reinstalled. Worse case scenerio would be the burner would need to be replaced. Do you have a warranty on the system since it is only a couple months old? Another thing to try is to uninstall all of the software to the burner and shut the system down then unplug the data cable to the burner then restart the computer and then shut it down again then plug it burner back in then reinstall all of the software, it's time consuming but it may work.
