you say you have a Sony DVD/CD Rewritable Drive this just from the name does not seem to be a DVD-r drive only a DVD ROM drive. so from this you cannot burn a dvd with a dvd rom drive it must be a dvdr drive. please check this and post the model of your burner then we may be able to help you out more.

sounds like you may not have the drive installed properlly or the drivers for the driver were not correctly install if the drive will not even read a normal DVD movie disc. Maybe try to uninstall it and put it back in again. Another thing that DVDr drives do not like is being on the same IDE cable as another DVD drive or CD drive they typically like to be the only CD/DVD rom drive on the IDE cable and they should placed as the master device.

one of the best programs in my opinion for copying DVDs would be DVD Shrink it is free and can copy most DVDs every now and then you won't be able to decode on so then you can use DVD decrytper and then DVD shrink to copy/back it up.

I did a how to for it here

If you did not install anything with the drive then i would guess you will need to get the drivers for the device. You should be able to go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers and install them then you drive may work properly.

here is a link to a spot where you can download the driver for your device give it a try.

sounds good just let us know!

But it just sounds like you needed the drivers for the drive. which basically tells the computer and drive how to work together. Your computer will number the drive by it's self but may not install the drivers for you if it doesn't have them.
