I done did it.......
Well, thanks to my MoBo dyin on the faithful but outdated Dell, I am now the proud owner of my first home built computatin' machine........
I'll have pics in a while, after I get it all set up (which I really should be doin now instead of browsing the forums here!) OK, I got the Abit IS7 MoBo(sweet), Pentium4 2.6 GHz/800 MHz FSB, Antec SLK Plusview 1000 AMG Full TowerCase, Antec SmartBlue 350 watt Power Supply. I reused my ATI A-I-W Radeon 8500, my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card and my HDDs and removable drives. So far it is unbelievably fast. But then again I only have Windows installed and I was running a P3 500 MHz................ |

Well, since I only have one monitor, right now its off to the spare bedroom with all the old tv's and stereo equipment...... I eventually would like to replace the MoBo and get a new processor for it as I have enough spare parts to put it back together. And yes, it most certainly will be AMD. Its the only MoBo that will allow me to use my old memory. I think the guy at the computer store said 1.4 GHz. That will be a decent machine for Mrs. rasta. Oh yea, I forgot to list my RAM for the new machine, its 1 gig. This thing flys! Can't wait to see how it does when I gots it fully loaded................. |

"w00t" comes from the Dilbert Comicstrip.
Rasta: You should be able to get a mobo and processor combo for about $100, if you look around--and a used monitor should keep the Mrs happy with her own dedicated machine...and you will be on the road to your very own LAN!! (sharing drives/printers/internet, etc)

I would try and dredge up a pic of the very first homebuilt I ever did (yep, I still have it intact), but don't think anyone would remember. It cost around $2,500 at the time. A very sweet machine.
32k memory 8080A processor cassette tape drive data storage music/midi interface card walnut side keyboard It is called a Sol-20. Anyone remember those machines? And sadly no, I do not have it running still... |
