Paint Shop Pro 8

I just "got" Paint Shop Pro 8.

I was wondering

A. Who has version 8 or has used previous versions in the past.

B. What are your impressions, dislikes, and experiences with it.

Why yes, now that you mention it he does.

But please keep in mind that he is only a cartoon character, so that would, in fact, be highly improbable.

hi ken,

Ive been using PSP since version 4, its always been a fantastic product and ive enjoyed using it alot. The program has changed quite a bit since 7. Now onto its 8th revision, the whole look of the package is alot more modern. Photoshop'ish you could say..

I like it but i find myself having to get used to the controlls again.

One feature i really like is the presets that are included now, such as the auto enhance for photos. it works really well and is an amazing time saver for digi cam users such as myself.

hope you get much joy from using PSP8!

I dont think theres any doubt in anyones mind that Photoshop can do way more things than Paint shop pro.. but paint shop pro was neer aimed at the high end graphics market.. it was always meant to be a tool created to give people a way into the higher end graphics creation market. HOWEVER i have found that PSP8 really does give you the feeling that you are using a high end graphics program. It may not have the itty bitty icons and 'im so sleak and sexy' look of Photoshop but it does what it set out to do which is to be a fantastic product at a very AFFORDABLE price.

I find Photoshop to be too bloated for the average user but for a power user its a great program, i have used it when ive needed to do graphics work which need alot more detail than PSP5,6&7 can handle in the past. Ill have to try and create something really complex in PSP8 and ill bet you that it does it just as well as photoshop does.

If you want an affordable graphics app, the best out there is PSP8! and anything psp cant do straight out the box, you can sure bet theres a plug in that can!

on bog basic stuff there is nothing to choose beetween psp and
adobe but when you get to the higher end stuff nothing is going to touch adobe i use psp and i probably dont use even a quarter
of its capabilities it would be even less on adobe(but i have it any way as a back-up..lol) a friend of mine does loads of graphic and design work the things he does with photoshop and the macromedia software is unbelievable but i suppose a lot of it depends on what your comfy with

Can't say that I have. I've used PSP 7 on Win98SE with no problems. And i've been using PSP 8 for about a week on a better machine, WinXP pro installed with no problems.

Its strange too, out of all the programs i've ever had crash, etc, PSP has not been on of them. Its been truly stable for me.

Anyway, what specific error message(s) do you get?

well it doesnt actually give me error messages.. it basically doesnt save when i need it to... it just makes the default windows error noise when i try to save... it weird...

I have had this trouble with some other programs im running such as ToonBoom, and IE soemtimes doesnt close when i press the X in the top right....

I think this is down to the fact that when i made my last Norton ghost image, i reinstalled everything from scratch including XP pro and then made a ghost image so that on every restoration i wouldnt have to install anything else... It seems that the image may have some flaws/faults so maybe this coming weekend im going to do another system wide reinstall and make fresh Ghost images.. hopefully this will sort it.

I have a tendancy to run more than 1 installation at a time when i have new programs to install... it may be that doing this last time i may have screwed the installations up to begin with.. this time ill be doing them one by one...

thanx for your input ken

and btw.. PSP8 is better than PS7

That is odd. And its not limited to one program. I'd back up the data and reformat the drive.

thanks for the replies, and kind words
