Just install it normally. No real difference between installing it on 98 and XP.
It has more functions (a lot more), but it is still similar.

Sounds like you did an Office upgrade and not an Windows upgrade. Just about every year M$ comes out with a new Office edition (Office 95, 98, 2000, etc.). The latest version was called Office XP to match the new OS.

If you want to upgrade to Windows XP, you will need either a Windows XP Home or Pro upgrade CD.

Is that 56 megs of ram? Um... yeah. You can't install windows XP if you only have 56MB ram.

"Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device"

source - Microsoft

here's a place to get some cheap ram (less than $30):
www.pricewatch.com
good luck.

I run XP on my wife's PII 350 + 384 RAM.. and it actually runs very well...(not as well as on my AthlonXP2000 but that is another story...)

On anything less than 384 RAM and bootup will be slow.

My father's PII 400 has 256 RAM and it takes a while to boot.

Guess it is time to start writing the "build" a great pc one piece at a time for $100 per month -- I can tell you which parts to buy each month, then after 6 months we put it (all the parts) together and have a very nice machine that you can upgrade from that point on very inexpensively.

What do you think??
If I get enough interest, and if enough of you can afford $75-$125 per month then I will be glad to start writing it.

You think thats a good idea ?
as prices on pc parts change from week to week ,
plus there's always the local store with a special offer.

I Would Suggest anyone interested in building your own pc ,
the first thing you should do is a lot of window shopping on the net , get yourself a list of as many online stores that deliver to your country/region as you can , then start tracking the price trends (you'll find memory goes up and down , but cpu's just go down)
this will help decide the order to buy things in (dont want to buy something this month thats 1/2 price next month)
next , decide on the spec of your system
are you happy with upto an xp 2000?
Is intel for you ?
do you realy NEED an expensive sound card ?
How big a power supply does the tower need in it (I recomend 550watts if your planing on a hi spec system)

Do you know someone who's just upgraded a system (maybe you could buy their old parts from them)

these are the things you should know before spending any money
