Hi LPDad..All

I've been tweaking around my sys... and lost recycle bin capability to hold files - only undelete of last trashed file ability by clicking 'undelete' (folder is empty of anything I put in there). Setting: Standard Recycle Bin. Unerase Wizard's Critical Message: "Unexpected values found in recycle bin data file"

Any ideas?? or maybe a nice pat on the back for "nice blunder" :o

TIA
LdyLaffs

Hi ldylaffs --Welcome.,

This one is interesting, to say the least. (I am going to have to ponder this one to find a quick solution).

Here are some option you can use to "fix" it -- (I will try to find a solution that is trash specific but it is going to take a little research by me)

1, you can try to use your system restore option
(you might be able to restore to a time before your problem occurred)

2. you can put your windows XP CD in your CD drive (then close any windows that open up).
then run your systemFileChecker (sfc) to restore your critical windows files to their original pristine state.
Start->Run->type CMD.
This will open a big black window (that looks suspiciously like a DOS window )
now type the following: sfc /scannow
this takes about 10 minutes (depending on your puter speed)

If you have Norton System works make sure you run one button checkup to make sure any registry errors are repaired.

There are a couple of other options (which will work--if you need them let me know--> but try these first)

HP..."bah"

Hi LP...Thanks for the shout back

HP Recovery partitioned on HD. Present status tweaked away some HP and XP gobblers... Wouldn't I be back to square one -- wiping updates, tweaks & personal installs from the system files -- if I were to run *System Restore*??? <gags> *kicks Recycle Trash Can Bin*

No Norton System Works or proper backing up... <bad, bad girl>
...and I do miss DOS.

When you run system restore you will only loose the changes made AFTER the restore date you choose. (you can always undo the restore if you need to).

Using the SystemFileChecker-- you will basically reset the critical System files to whatever version you have on your XP Cd (or stupid restore disk.

These were the 2 easiest and fastest ways to try to "fix" your problem. You would need to re-download your updates/patches after using SFC.

I am trying to figure out if there is a registry setting that needs to be restored. This is a very strange problem. (I will keep looking--who knows Just maybe I will come accross a solution)

not sweating it..

no clean XP disk...Hewlett Packard Recovery partitioned on HD.

I remember creating recycle bins on old win platforms. If I could find where on XP to create a new 'working' one, I could stuff the broken one in there.. although, gotta wonder if the 'critical : unexpected values in the recycle bin data file' will affect new bin or get tossed with the old.
