That could be a number of things, if your sound is good any other time it could be the load on your system causing it, like low memory. My system does this to me if I am playing UT with all the eye candy turned up and have other things going on in the background. The main cause is low memory. Post your system specs and maybe that will help us find the problem and suggest some ideas.

i have maxed out my memory on that motherboard to 384mb. the harddrive has only like half a gb left of space, i noticed that this is slowing the system down, but not drastically. before when i had like a few 5 gigs left on it i still got bad crackling noises and couldnt play divx or dvd right. months before this i had no problems with divx, the computer was made to play dvds too.. so im guessing it might have someting to do with some drivers or settings that are incorrect?

That is one thing you could do is check all the manufacturer sites of your hardware and get all the latest stable drivers and install them and see if that helps. It is possible for drivers to get corrupted.

sounds to me like something is bogging down the transfer rate of data to be processed - i would do a benchmark and check the results to find the specific problem area
