What's Your Opinion of SP1 for XP?

What do you think of service pack 1 for xp? Is it good, or is it a waste of time? Do you even care?

I think we need it due to all the security updates and that is true with all OS. Because nothing is secure in the eyes of a hacker....

Any update or patch that fixes security flaws is worthwhile, so it does serve a purpose. Microsoft is just living up to their reputation. "Get the product out, and we will fix the problems later, if we feel like it!".

LPDad is on a distinguished road
Unfortunately, you do need it, whether you want it or not is another question entirely.

lol, so true!

Although I don't run XP at all anymore (no updates for me!), just a distant memory

not really, its mainly a giant security fix, as well as other bugs in xp itself. It does update IE and most of the other basic windows programs, but there's nothing really hugely noticeable, other than a new menu in the add/remove program's window.

I didn't notice much with it... except I did like the Program Access and Defaults button. Overall the SP did what it was supposed to, so I guess it was good.

i recently discovered that it screwed up my firewall, but that was fixed by a reinstall of the firewall...i hope. if you use NIS, go to grc.com and check to see if your ports are stelthed. if not, reinstall NIS. plz, no bashing NIS here :/

I had a problem with that on my other computer before I got SP1... I haven't attempted to use the firewall for a long time now... so I don't know if SP1 fixed that on that one.

it fixes the problem of networking with winxp corp and windows 98 .. before the service pack it would take 2-3 mins to get the shared folders from a 98 machine while using winxp, works fine now .. its documented as one of the fixes.

I have mixed feelings about SP-1. I agree with LPDAD... but I seem to be having sporatic shut-downs now... No I don't have a virus. I rolled back my GF4 drivers and installed the newest and even went back to the old... no apparent software conflicts... just MS at is finest I guess!
LOL
