Still problems with iexplore
I posted this on a different thread ..
Everytime I close down win me I get and error that says "You must quit this program before you can exit windows" I then get ok or cancel ... The program is "iexplore" If I ctrl alt del and end task on the program I can shut down normally .... I have no idea what the program is either ? Anyone got any clues ? I upgraded from i.e 5.5 to i.e 6 ..... I still have the exact same trouble ! |

sounds like a bug in internet explorer. For some reason it has another window opened that apperently isn't visible to you. I'm not really sure what to say except maybe visit microsoft.com and try a search for anything related to your problem.

Have you ever had the box connected to a network? If so, or not, the problem maybe in your network settings. Ensure that the computer is not attempting to log on to a network at startup. You should also check to make sure you internet connection settings are as they should be. Oh yes, if you are using MSN as an ISP you may need to check the "preferences" to make sure that it (IM) isn't trying to open a page even when you're not logged on.
I am not really sure that any of the above will fix your problem. I work best with the "box" in front of me. If none these things help, please post again with more details. Sorry. One more thing, make sure that you have downloaded all applicable service packs, updates, and security patches. |

I am running Me and i.e6
If I don't ctrl alt del ...and just shut down I get a pop up saying that iexplore is still running and click OK to close or cancel to not close . If you click ok after a little while you get end task or wait ... If you end task it closes the program and I can shut down ! |

It almost sounds as if you are using your browser as a desktop. I am not really sure how to approach this. I have problems with ME in the past. I will check a few boxes at work today that are runnig ME and get back to you tonight. Workin' like a Rib

anyone consider the possibility that it could be a remote trojan named as iexplore.exe and the process may be running from a different location on the drive ? use a process viewer to establish the location of the file and confirm whether it is indeed originating from \program files\internet explorer - lots of trojans can be renamed to a common windows core file such as msgsrv32.exe, mprexe.exe, etc. - i recently ran into a keylogger that sent emails of my keystrokes, the process was named iexplore.exe and originated from the \system folder. i killed the trojans process immediately and removed the reg entry for persistent startup and copied the trojan to my collection folder to disassemble & debug. some trojans process can also be hidden from the common ctrl+alt+del porcess view, they are registered as a service. a good place to get a process viewer is http://www.blehq.org/ or you can also use pview95.exe that comes with MS visual basic 6
