Replacing the HD on an external unit

Has anyone had any experience swapping the HDD on an external unit? I've got an old 40GB Iomega external HD, and I was thinking about opening it up and dropping in a 120GB drive.

no experience with it, but you could see if you can open it without molesting it, and if the drive is a normal IDE drive, with normal connectors and stuff... There is of course no guarantee that the thing will work if you put in a new drive, but if it looks like a normal disk, I think you have a decent chance it will work out...

I'd say keep a backup plan in case it doesn't work, like that you can put the new drive in some computer to use it!
