Well, it happened for the second time to me.
My HD crashed, i started my pc, everything was fine, running ok, did some surfing, checked mail, nothing interesting. And since it was a sunday morning, around 8am, i decided to switch the pc off, and return to bed for a few hours. When i (we) got up again, my gf wanted to check her mail, turned on the pc, nothing!! Master disk not found, i was, wtf, it was working a few hours ago, tried everything i (we) could think of, but the hd was dead, no sound, no spinning platters, absolutely nothing. This was a 40gb disc where the os was located, and some other stuff, my most important things i had on another 80 gb WD disk, and they are still there (pfew!) As said, this is the second time this happens to me with a IBM deskstar hd. Last time i had the warning signals, strange noises, etc. So i was able to safe some things, burn 'm to disc, but this time, everything gone. So, no more ibm hd for me, no way.... btw, bought me a nice big 160GB Western Digital this time, so i've got 160+80 GB storage now ![]() Was "only" €96,00 ! |

Ouch.. I have never used an IBM hard drive. So I am not familiar witih them crashing.. I thought they were actually good quality.. guess that may not be the case.
Oh and careful with the WD high capacity drives.. was reading reviews on them at newegg and pricegrabber and they seemed to have quite a few complaints.. about being noisy and then dying... after a few months. that is actually why I went with a 120GB seagate recently.. becuase the reviews were much better on them. Just a hindsight note of course bud. WD is a good company.. doubt it will die on ya.. just was thikning.

IBM has made a series where one batch had some mistakes in it, one of those mistakes was that they were sold...
LOL Well, no good advertising anywayz.

btw, what still sucks in my opinion, you buy an 160 gb hd, install, you get 130 gb...
And yes i know, bytes, bits, 1000, 1024 etc., different calculation methods, both true, yaddayaddayadda But why don't they just put a big label with 130 gb on it ? I mean, that's what you end up with in the end..... |
