File-sharing to bypass censorship

By the year 2010, file-sharers could be swapping news rather than music, eliminating censorship of any kind.
This is the view of the man who helped kickstart the concept of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing, Cambridge University's Professor Ross Anderson.

I very much doubt that this will really happen. It is quite ironic that the story was published by the BBC also. Futhermore, under this system, validating stories would be even harder than at present and censorship would occur as society will always try to protect itself against taboo subjects.

What is this Usenet like anyway, I can't say I have used it.

You'll always run into the problem of trust.

As it stands now, It's pretty hard to fake a legitimate press release, meaning if you read something in the media, like say from salon.com or ananova.com or on Google news, from Reuters, the AP, Knight Ridder, whatever, odds are it's genuine.

Now, either the press releases are subject to 'editorialization' by people who want to manipulate facts, or the releases are signed, and the censors they're trying to get around simply block anything which matches known keys of non-government-approved agencies...

Which means you're back to square one.
