installing a DVD-Rewriter (problems)

Hi all

ive just bought a new DVD-Rewriter and tried to install it as secondry master, when i plugged it in and started up it wouldnt boot because it didnt detect the hard drive so it asked me to insert a boot disk to start up. if i unplug the DVD-Rewriter and boot up it starts normally and loads windows. how can i get it to work so that it detects my hard drive and DVD-Rewriter and boots from the HD ?

hope i was clear enough

thanks

-colin

Remember that if you do connect two drives to the same cable then you need to manually set both of them. In otherwords you need to make sure that your hard drive you had in there originally is set to Master. Have you already done that?

I guess I need to remember that lots of people still use Win98. Nice catch by your uncle.

LO There!
Arrow it's the OS ?

i have a pioneer 105 runing on 98se box with no problem!
i also have a box with XP but with the pioneer 104, it runs no better then when it was in the 98se box!
so no point in upgrading just to see if it will work.
so hold, for now
post a list of your sys info.
name of dvdr drive etc
m/b have you updated the bios of late? have a look,
maybe a known problem with a FIX

I am having problems with my new DVD burner to. Allso Windows 98 but, a Sony DW-U18A. It is set as Master on the secondary cable. I can play a DVD as long as I don't move the mouse. That caused the system to stop everything. The only way to continue is to push the reset switch. I can read a CD also, plays music CD ok.

Maybe it is the driver of the All-In-Wonder video card causing a conflict? Thanks in advance.
