Troubles w/ Nero & 52 X Aopen

I picked up a (basically no-name) burner by Aopen. (They make the burner than put Future Shop's name 'Cicero' on it)

The burner came with Nero.

Ta - da .. Nero doesn't recognize the drive, it's not a supported hardware according to the software and Ahead's tech support.

Is there another similar software that is completely freeware? I realize there are lots other similar products, but I'm looking for freeware because I've already spent as much on this as I plan to.

edit - By similar I mean capable of burning music cd's from mp3, and creating VCD's (although that is less important) Please don't respond with a list of 7 programs that when used together create a superior finished product. This isn't for my use and it has to be user-friendly.

Don't want much do I?

What OS are you using? I believe taht Roxio CD creator is part of XP automatically.. or maybe you can find it for D/L on MS's website.

Roxio is ok.. not the best but it will do the job on music CD's.
