Talking Reccommend PSUs

Hey techies. Well yippie ki yay muther *bleeep* I have YET to have my new pc working. It seems that all along my psu has been fried. So, what brand and/or model do you prefer. It has to be 500 watt minimum. No need for lights and eye candy.

Or you can go for Enermax as well. But stick with one of these two.

Are you sure you need 500W? I thought I did too.. but a "good" brand of PSU at 350W is actually better than a generic 500W PSU. Just a thought anyhow..

How many devices are you running in your PC?

Yeah I mean i have a DVD drive, DVD recorder, Floppy, five case fans, two hard drives, and some other stuff i cannot think of right now. Just make sure they are not telling you that you need a big PSU if you really don't but it would still be good to have one.

Ive heard good things about Antec and Enermax. Well I was heading for generic but if a theres a brand with working parts Ill take that route. I salvaged some hardware so my list is a bit updated.

-Koolance PC2-C water cool case
-Sony CD-RW
-52x cd-rom (salvaged, old may need more juice)
-1 floppy
-soyo kt400 dragon (black) motherboard
-amd athlon xp 2400+

Thats pretty much it. Im not really sure about what each requires. I already have an Achieve 500 watt psu...but it just doesnt make pc head to POST. Either its fried or weak. I need a psu test device.

ok ouch.. I bought an Achieve 500W PSU. I fried it in half hour on my XP 2500 barton chip.

I purchased a 350W enermax from www.jab-tech.com where we do in fact get a 10% discount just PM me if you want to know about that part. Its for all PCTT members.

The 350W PSU has been a champ. I am running an AMD XP 2500 barton core chip, an CD/RW drive, DVD drive, 2 hard drives, an antec aeroflow CPU fan, 4 case fans, and an MSI KT4 motherboard. Including some LED's. And this PSU does it all just fine.

With a PSU you want brand name.. generic is too risky. The PSU can fry things inside your computer very easily.. so you need to be picky and pay the extra dollar for the better brand in these cases. Especially with an AMD chip.

Well perhaps i can use the achieve psu ONLY for powering cd-rom drives and water cooling. Everything else with a brand name good one. Hell I work some small electronics so I could always salvage it. But that discount for PCTT members sounds good. I have even more crap to put into the pc so Im gonna need a 500 watt pure and simple.

Here is a 550W Enermax for 136$ Click

Here is a 460W Enermax for 78$ Click.

Basically up to $100 and no more. That 460 watts looks good though. If all of those componets dont run altogether to 500 I'll take it.

hey can anyone recommend a good psu for me.. running a p4 1.7 soon to upgrade (in march) to a p4 2.6 or higher ..

running 2 cd drives, 2 hard drives, radeon 9500 which needs extra power, oh and might also fit water cooling soon enough.

Tagan and Zalman manufactures good PSU's too, and Levicom isn't that bad. Just don't buy brands like Q-Tec, Aopen and other cheap stuff.

I like Thermaltake...the offer quality PSUs for good prices. They don't have the highest rails, but nobody needs 35A on the 12v rail

I have a Thermaltake Silent True 480W. It works like a champ and it's very silent (you can only hear the CPU fan). As long as you get a quality PSU with a strong combined output, you'll be fine with 350W. I burned a generic 400W PSU in less than 6 months, so leson learned, no more generic. If you plan to get a GeForce 6800 or ATI X800 then go to 400W to be safe.
