anyway to burn 800mb onto a cd?
This is probably a way out question, but is there anyway that I can burn 800mb onto regular cd-r without having to go to the next step of burning it onto a dvd?
I want to burn a .bin file onto a cd but of course it's a tad bit to large at 800mb. If there isn't a way that's ok, is just curious. Thanks

you can actualy buy 800mb cdr's, but they can be a little hard to come by, other than that you may get away with an overburn on a 750mb cdr, what cdr software are you using?

ok, setting up an overburn with nero isnt that tough, open the app then go to file/preferences, you will find the overburn settings on the expert features tab, but be sure to read the warnings, as it can result in a bit more than a wasted cd.

Just burn the .cue file...you are probaby trying to burn a movie-- and with .mpg and .avi files you can fit 800 mb onto a regular 700 mb CD...It has to do with the Way you burn them (you want to use Mode 2) and the file overhead.
Programs need the overhead for error correction, but movie and MP3 files do not need the file correction...so you can get more onto a CD. I have posted lots on this in the Audio and the Video file forums. you can fit roughly 807 mb of a movie file onto a 700 mb disc without overburning. When you have a .bin/.cue file..put them both in the same folder and then use your burning program to BURN IMAGE...and point it to the .cue file. That is all you should have to do.

If you still need help, give me some specifics as to the filetype, and what you are trying to do...what burning program you are using...etc.

Thanks for the help, it's a PS2 game with a .bin file and a .cue file. The reason why I am asking is cause I have a daughter who loves scratching up the cd's. So I want to make a backup copy of the PS2 game so I don't have to keep on buying it. You know how kids are, no matter how much you tell them they forget 5 minutes later.
I have tried making a backup copy of the whole game onto a blank dvd but it won't play. I tried changing the .bin to a .iso and that won't work. I put the .bin and .cue file onto a blank dvd and that won't work. I think I tried just about everything and is all out of options. Thanks Again

Thanks for all the help but upon further investigation I found that you can't burn a PS2 game without modifying the game console. Which I think is bull cause there are probably countless people who have games that are ruined cause they couldn't make a backup, but that's just my opinion.
Thanks Again

I know EXACTLY what you mean about kids and Cds.... I live that nightmare daily...LOL...
The best way to make backup copies of your cds is by using ALCOHOL 120%....It will make working backups of just about any cd (even the new fileprotections--but with some of them you need to use the copied discs in conjunction with Alcohol..but they do work). It will also make working backups of your PS2 games..but as you have learned you need to modify how you use the discs..(It used to be that you could just put a spring in a slot of the open door..use it to depress a little button while the door is open...start your ps2 with a working game disc, then once it is going..switch the cds for your copied game..but I am not sure what you do nowdays) Sorry I could not be more help.

To be able to play back ups of ps2 games you'll need a mod chip(which are illegal in some countries).
The swap trick works some times but some people say that it "wears off" the laser lenses. I don't have a ps2 or psone for that matter, but here is a good site afterdawn with some good info

I don't know if this works as I'm not interested in PS2 games, but it's worth a try.

Thanks overlord for the info. I checked there website and got the same answer. Playstation 2 has copyright protection at the hardware level. I can copy the game onto a disk but can't play it unless I get a mod chip for the Playstation.
Cheers

Viper, you got me interested. I found a couple of mod chips thingys that can be used which do not require cracking the case:
http://www.mod-chip.com/ Not too expensive...considering 1 broken game disk is $50 down the tubes. Let me know how things work out.
