I am partial to Seagate also, I have never had a problem with them, and I currently have 4.

I also have WD, and Maxtor. (3 of each) The maxtors I have seem to die after 2 years of hard work, and I have also had 2 WD drives go bad on me before their time, but that could be just bad luck.

I really steer clear of IBM.

I also have one Toshiba drive that I got of an old computer that has been VERY durable..I think it is going on year 5 of solid usage.

Ive had a seagate drive which ive been using since i bought my first pc way back in 1994! its a tiny 2gig drive but it gets used daily as a kind of dumping ground and i alo have adobe set up to use it as a scratch disk... also im always running disk images from it. and the amount of wear and tear should have seen this beuty long dead by now but it keeps on going! fantastic drive! highly reommend seagate

I prefer Seagate.

I have one Seagate 80 GB 7200, but not too long ago I was running 3 hdds (1 x 10 GB, 1 x 3 GB and 1 x 850 MB -a really old model that I have been using for over a decade -) and this was a mess, I prefer one drive and one partition .

I have a very bad experience with Samsung (two dying a week after purchase -not in the same place and on different dates- so I stay away from them.) Maxtor is also a good choice for me.

my old system had a WD last still works good today and it's 5 years old, and my new system has a 80 and 40 gig WD so that would be my recommendation to you.

My Maxtor Diamondmax d740x (40 GB) 7200 RPM ATA 133 HD has been nothing but reliable so far. I've been running it non stop for about 2.5 years now - not 1 bad sector.

Be that as it may, My next drive is going to be a raid 5 array of Seagate 10,000 RPM cheetahs

10k rpm drives get really hot, so be prepared to buy hdd active cooling (better those that fit on a 5"1/4 bay that blow in cool air).

I have a 40 gig Maxtor Diamond Max +8, and an 80 gig Maxtor Diamond Max + 9. Both are running fine, and are whisper quiet.

My main reason for getting them was for the ATA133 capacity to go with my Abit AT7 Max2 mobo. Couldn't have asked for better, They fly rings around the noisy old 20 gig Seagate I had in my old rig.

I really am a fan of the maxtor brand of hard drives. They are very quiet and thier site offers very good customer support along with hard drive software.
