Question pioneer 104 firmware upgrade

Just tried to upgrade the firmware in my pioneer 104, downloaded the zip file and double clicked the upgdvd icon, up came a dos box stating that it had found 2 drive and did i want to upgrade both ? clicked no and it asked if i only wanted to upgrade the pioneer 104 drive. Clicked yes and then it stated that some error about a kernal name mismatch ????? ( may aswell be talking dutch to me at this point ! ) then says unable to complete and shuts down the dos box. have tried other firmware versions that are RPC1 and are 2x4all and they do the same ?

Hence my post here !

Can anyone help me find out what this means and how i can upgrade my drive to write faster and also give me a wider choice of media to use !

Thanks to anyone who can help in advance !!!

rastagard is on a distinguished road
The only thing I can think of is to try the upgrade in safe-mode.

Other than that, you might just have to contact Pioneer.

Out of interest why do you want to update it? We've got a 104 and it runs flawlessly?

High Peeps ...... Managed to sort it eventually after a bit of research on a few different sites.

The error i was getting was because it was not a true pioneer 104 it was an OEM pioneer had made for someone else.

First i had to flash it with the pioneer universal RPC 1 firmware to make it a true 104.

Then i was able to reboot and then upgrade the firmware with the 2 for all firmware !

Now have a true 104 that will write at 2 speed and is region free.

Thanks anyway for the responses guys !

If you have never upgrade your firmware? could be worth doing anyway! as it seems you could kill the drive etc, if you used 4 speed disks?!

Polariz , tHE reason that you need to upgrade the filmware
is if you would happen to put in a dvd that is made
for a faster recorder then you would damage yours.
So man do the upgrade
