Possible registry problem -- Win2k Pro
I can't look at my address book -- not even on the backup drive. When checking the file association option (right mouse click), I am redirected to look on my Windows XP installation disk for the file that I need.
Only one problem. I am running Windows 2000 Pro and not Windows XP and I have never run Windows XP. What do I need to do to fix this problem. I suspect I have some registry issues. My second problem is that I am getting letters different than what I am typing when filling out a form. I have to type in notepad and copy and paste to get around this. What do I need to change? Hmmm...I am running XP so I am not the best qualified to give you Win2000 advice, but a little more info might help find the problem.
What file are you trying to open?? Have you tried opening your address book from INSIDE either OutlookExpress or Outlook (whichever you are using)?? choose -File->Open-> and then navigate to your Address book from there. (or does this give you an error message?) if it says you are missing a file....what is the exact name of the file or .dll you are missing?? As far as you keyboard...that does sound strange....does the wrong key thing only happen on webpages, or do you get it happening all the time????

Isn't your IE browser and it's additionally components infected with some cripple virus? Have you installed an IE version meant for XP maybe (sounds strange, but IE6 was made for XP ofcourse) so it references to XP now?
Installed SP4 lately? Have you got a virusscanner running?

I have a virus scanner running. I suspect that there is a pointer file that has caused this havoc. This in addition, to using a registry cleaner caused this mess. In any event the issue is moot at this point because I had a big crash and ended up doing a full install.
However, I wish to avoid this problem happening again in the future and want to do a full backup of the registry. Can anyone tell me how to install a backed up registry????

Randal South, after you export the registry, simply double click the icon created to restore it. If you use win2k (and I'm sure xp), there is an automatic backup wizard scheduler
