A good case to use?
I was wondering what a new good case to use would be. Currently I have a 100 dollar case that I had bought. It is a full tower and does the job for my 5 hard drives, 2 internal cd-writers, 1 external, DVD-Rom drive, and a Tape Drive. The case is very crowded, especially with all the PCI slots in use. I was wondering if a Lian-Li case would be good. www.Lian-li.com They have the PC-75 case or PC-70 case that is a full tower, and one seems to have a neat little window in it. Just curious on what you people would recommend for a monster machine like this? :?

Oh, and my hard drives have no cooling on them... They are pretty hot, I would say they all run at about 120 to 130F.... So I could really use some cooling for it.

One more thing, is there was a guy who made cases in his own house. I know it wasn't Lian-Li. Anyone know what that site is? I know his cases were pretty good too.

I can't remember who makes my case, but it has been very good to me. Its a full tower with a 350w PS that has never let me down..... you know, I say this now... it will probably blow up sometime later tonight.
If your interested, Ill see if I can remember where it came from. -JRW |

Well if it can handle everything I got and has very good cooling, especially for hard drives I would appreciate it if you would look it up. I gotta find a case sometime soon.

I have a jet black Lian-Li case, cost me £89 (that's about $140) and it's extremely good! Very light, lots of nice quiet fans (two of which blow over the hard drives), big and roomy to work in... plus it seems to make the whole system run a few degrees cooler... dunno if that's anything to do with the case or not though, but I did hear that aluminium dissipates heat better... Plus most cases come with useless 350W PSUs, I change them for a two fan 450W one anyway. Oh, and it's the first case I've ever worked on that hasn't tried to rid me of my fingers I think many PC builders know what I'm saying here...!

What can I say... If you have the coin a Lian li or Cooler master is the way to go..
If you are on a budget and want an aluminum case with the ability to cool your hard drives then a Chieftec/Chen-ming dragon case is the most popular.. They run around $70 with no PSU. Talking about PSU's , don't skimp and be cheap in this area, it is one of the most important parts of a PC and definitly one of the most over looked... Buy a decent PSU and it will out last your next 5 systems... |

its true, aluminium has much better disaption propertys than the steel most cases are made from, its why a lot of heat sinks are made from it. about the only thing that conducts heat better is copper but thats just too heavy to use

I agree with jon on the Chieftec cases. That is actually what I am getting this week from www.jab-tech.com. The silver dragon case with the side window.
I actually like the look of the cheiftec.. and it has room for 5 case fans.. two in the front to cool your hard drives and intake air. Good flow with a side panel fan as well. There are some other cases on jab techs site that actually have blow holes in the top.. and are built really nice for about 100 dollars. If i can get good air flow in a case wihtou breaking the bank you better belive I will sink my teeth into it. Thus I chose Chieftec Dragon

I have a question for you guys.
It seems like the trend now is to have the drives hidden behind a door. This really wouldn't matter much for the CD & DVD drives, but I usually keep a zip disk and a floppy in their respective drives so this concept seems a bit of an inconvienence to me. What do you guys think? |
