Arrow installed new hard drive

but only 118Ram is showing, and it is showing only at 68% resources. Why?

Also I had to use my recovery disk from HP. nothing else seemed to work. I must have done something wrong but not sure what.

any help will be appriciated

Thanks

OK, we will need some more information about the system and what you did for the upgrade.

What OS? Did you do a fresh install on the new drive? Is it a master or slave drive?

Please give me complete details and i'll see if I can help,

Hey Donna.

Where are you seeing the 118MB of RAM? The reason I ask that is because the RAM (Random access memory) is seperate from your Hard Drive. If you want to see the size of your new drive when you are in windows you can open up "My Computer" and look at the C: drive by right clicking on it and going to Properies. This will show you the size of the new drive you have installed (as windows see's it).

Also on the 68% resources free.. where did you see this? This could be because you have a lot of things starting up on your computer when you turn it on. There is an easy way to tell.. if you start up windows look at the bottom right corner of your screen and if you see a multitude of icons lined up there next to the clock that is a bad thing. Easily fixed.. but take a peek and tell us what you see down there.

Also.. what did you do with the old hard drive? is it still in the PC? Or are you only using the new hard drive? And when you installed the hard drive did you just use the restore CD on it and it put everything back on your computer?

Brand new hard drive, because I was having problems with the other.

Mad that I had to use my HP Recovery Disk to get it to run. Couldn't seem to get the copy of Windows 98se to work that I had.

This HP recovery disk has windows 98se on it. The computer is a Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6623.

We put in a Cdrw last year with no problems. Then a neigbor had some extra ram that would work with our computer and not his so he gave it to us.(was a 56).

Only things running in right hand corner is, McAfee, Task Scheduler, Display, Volume, Connection to net, and Clock. If I can remove any of these let me know.

Found info by way of my computer and System Properties

Memory: 120.0MB of Ram(118.0mb last night before bed) weird hey?

System Resources: 70%free

File System: 32-bit

Virtual Memory: 32-bit

Also in my computer the Capacity 55.8 GB

Used: 1.65 GB

Free: 54.2 GB

Single drive. Took the old out since I was having trouble with it. Had lots of bad clusters.

Hope I have everything needed.

Thanks

LOL... you have 56 GB on your harddrive (60 gb drive??)

The memory you are looking at is your RAM (from your RAM chips)

HP tends to put alot a extraneous garbage on the restore cd and therefore the system. If you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL once, you will probably see quite a bit of stuff in the task manager. Ideally, you want as little as possible in there. You can experiment by ending the tasks and see what happens or ,better yet search for those filenames on your C: drive and see what they go to.
The folder names etc might give enough info to tell what they are. Some of them are more difficult. By disabling the things that you don't want/need (anything starting with HP ) via msconfig you should be able to free up quite a bit more of your resources.

As for the RAM, 120 is kind of a strange number, but I wonder if it's because the video is integrated and sharing the system memory. HP used to advertise X amount of RAM with X amount shared all the time.

Angry HP make me........

This is how I feel with HP right now. Sure wish I could afford a new computer then I would give this to my daughter and let her have the headaches.

No Cirga, Hp did write back with a foolish answer, I sent you a copy did you get it? anyway then they wrote back again after I asked them to please read again.

They said they need to get back to me in 4-5 buisness days, that they are handing this over to the Technical Support Division. OH Yeah!!!! They will probably tell me something I already did again, who knows.

Thanks Sinkalip I know I have done that, and taken them out. I just need to get rid of some stuff permanantly.

Talk to a soon

Well we can hope that HP will at least send you drivers for your machine. If they send drivers than you can save those to a disk.. and format and reinstall the way I explained to you in IRC.

Let me know when they respond again
