Need more info, what programs do you have running?
There is a older version of Ad-aware with Ad-watch that will do this.if you have Ad-watch, shut it down 1st.

I am now using ad-aware 6 and Spybot. They bin running for quite a while now with no hiccups, been muling over it all day and it was the missus that mentioned it. She only closes system down after it's been on all day so I'm thinking it could be norton auto protect that is the culprit as i shut down in daytime before V-check at 3 and it has never done it to me. And thinking about it while typing i been getting some conflicts with norton when winMX is running in conjunction with a system accelerator that I have now fired off as it was more trouble than it was worth. Will have to tell her to keep an eye on it to see if it has stopped, I've not been on for a while so maybe that's why I missed it.

Ad-awatch is a different part of Ad-aware.....not in the Free Version....Plus & Professional only...it runs in the background.

Would that be the bit that sits on the title bar and talks to you saying that it has detected regitry changes and stuff? If so I have it. It came with the package of ad-aware' own site. One of the few pukka downloads i have

Can't believe a chip causes XP not to shutdown at once. I prefer Lion's way of thinking. Looks like some application is aborting the shutdown procedure 'cause it not ready yet to be shut down...

Lion is right, I had the exact same problem, after I rid myself of ad-aware (now I use spybot) I never had the same problem again.
And yes I am using a P4 & WinXP Pro build 2600 SP1

shutting down ad-watch does the job just fine. for the sake of an extra 2 clicks I'll leave it well alone, only mods I'm planning to this is a much bigger hard drive 40gig is just toooooooo small

1 TB = 1000 GB
Raid is a way of setting up more than onedrive to act as if it were one drive... just as partitioning makes one drive act like many.

Actually, 1 TB will fill up a lot faster than one might think - Espescially if you have a good Broadband conection. After less than a month of nonstop capacity downloading - you'll have to make room - or just slap another drive in the array

Once you've collected 1024 terrabytes, you'll have an exobyte. If you aren't yahoo, or microsoft, or the like, you have no need for an exobyte... Yet
