Plextor CD_ROM problem

I've got a Plextor UltraPlex 40max Ultra SCSI drive and its acting weird. Whenever I have it connected Windows will hang between the boot screen and login screen. If I disconnect it (either by disconnecting the power or scsi cable) everythings fine. Also it takes forever to boot when its connected. Its got the latest firmware. It's got me perPLEXed.

I also have a pelxtor scsi drive. It sounds like your scsi card. Getting scsi to recognize hard drives is easy, but I have had some problems with my cd drives.

Honestly, my problem just kind of went away. Which scsi card are you using? Perhaps the 2940 can't handle the 40x drive. I upgraded to the 160MB card. Screamin' fast, no problems.

SCSI is the ultimate performance level for drives, but the support isn;t there because the industry hasn't migrated to this superior 15 year old technology and refuses to move away from the even more ancient and antiquated IDE bus.

Unfortunately, scsi devices require that you are a little PLEXable. (ok, the puns need to stop now)

After emailing tech support, I seemed to have gotten it figured out. BTW I'm using a 2930B (Ultra SCSI) Which is fine for my scanner, ZIP 250 and CD drive. It ended up being the external chain. I had disconnected the scanner since I sparingly use it and don't have the desk space to put it. I've always done the same thing in the past without problems. I don't know why this time it caused problems. The external chain goes like this- 2930 > Zip 250 > scanner.
