Question I have a small problem with win me ?

Everytime I close down win me I get and error that says "You must quit this program before you can exit windows" I then get ok or cancel ... The program is "iexplore"

If I ctrl alt del and end task on the program I can shut down normally .... I have no idea what the program is either ?

Anyone got any clues ?

.... and speaking of newer version. You should really think about XP. It is so much better than ME in so many ways.

Oh, then your best bet would be to run Win98SE. I found it to be much more stable than ME.

Yeah, I have a 21" monitor too .... although it is about 5 years old. Its still pretty good.

Back to the original question:
Your best bet is to do a backup eitehr to cd or to another hard drive... maybe via a network connection. Then format the hard drive and do a fresh installation of win98SE. Go grab all the newest windows updates and hardware drivers, and your system should be pretty stable.

Good luck,

I'd have to agree with jrwap on the backup and reinstall. Also if you're running one partition, break it up into a few drive letters and keep the data separate This makes it much easier to rebuild if it happens again You might want to check out Symantec's Ghost program as well. It's been a livesaver several times for me

On a separate note, i run a 19" monitor here and keep my res at 1280x1024 and still run out of screen space as well I'm looking into multiple monitors for my next desktop configuration

HAHA I got a 17" monitor running my overclocked celeron. I had that thing back in '91 and the thing runs great! But anyways, why can't you run XP on that system, what are the specs on it? I set up WinXP on my dads girlfriend machine. She has like a Pentium 300 and 128MB Ram. It ruins a tad slow but she likes it alot better than ME. :smilewink

Well I had XP running on Dual PII 350's. So really it didn't run that great, but if you were to have something like 256MB Ram in there it should run fine. Also, if that processor is at 100FSB, raise it to 133FSB and get yourself some 133 memory. You would be able to overclock it to about 700MHz.
