Neat little site. Actually does do a pretty good test. Wanted to quote something it said to me.. I did this from work and I am behind a DSL router and it assigns my IP address.

Quote:
In any of these cases you will not see an event notification on your computer because either our connection attempt did not reach your computer or the firewall is not operating. If you are in a corporate LAN, or using a cable or DSL router you are behind another firewall/proxy or NAT and your computer is secure.
Now i dont usually pigeonhole anything.. but keep in mind there is no such thing as "too much" security. While NAT and proxy/firewalls are great on corporate network... I still go through that router to get out on the net which means my personal PC is still somewhat vulnerable to attacks.

Thats why its good to have a personal firewall installed at all tiems on your PC. And you can get a great one at www.zonealarm.com for free.

Just wanted to add that

Traffic Sent

Packets were successfully sent to your computer. You should be aware that we were able to get a response from the computer at the IP address your traffic is originating from.

This could be due to any of the following reasons:

You are connecting to the Internet through a proxy server. When we attempted to connect back to the IP address your web traffic came from we actually were communicating the proxy server, not your computer.
You are behind a corporate firewall which is redirecting traffic in an unexpected manner.
You are connecting to the Internet through a router behaving as a NAT (network address translator). When we attempted to connect back to the IP address your web traffic came from we actually were communicating with the NAT, not your computer.
Your firewall is not running.
In any of these cases you will not see an event notification on your computer because either our connection attempt did not reach your computer or the firewall is not operating. If you are in a corporate LAN, or using a cable or DSL router you are behind another firewall/proxy or NAT and your computer is secure.

Wonder if thats anything to do with my router/firewall also being a http/ftp/mail server

Have you tried all 6 tests on the sygate site ?
Some take a while,up to 30 minutes to complete, but it's worth the waiting if you want to know how secure your system is.
What firewall are you using ?

Thumbs up Browser can make firewall useless

On the topic of online security tests – try AuditMyPC.com

You can check all 65,535 ports, TCP and UDP and they have an excellent browser security test. The tests are the fastest around!

An incorrectly configured browser can make the most secure firewall useless.

I was using Zone Alarm Pro! Then I started having problems on a particular forum ... It was putting <javascript stuff> in my posts.

One of the forum members asked me if I was using ZAPro, because it can cause that very same problem.

He hit the nail on the head..

Someone suggested using Sygate, gave me a link and stuff and I've been using it ever since. Only thing is, I'm not sure about the advanced stuff like ports and whatever (TCP/UDP)

I wish someone would write a simple explanation and then I would know how to configure it...... I know... I know...RTFM... lol....

I'm not very good with manuals on screen I prefer the old type printed stuff
