I love my AMD systems, and would reccomend you go with the XP proc also. If you have plenty of money the P4 with a large bank of expensive RDRAM would still be a sweet system. For some reason the P4's haven't performed very well when mated to the DDR RAM or Pc133 ... for obvious reasons.

Get yourself a nice XP with a bunch of DDR RAM and nice mobo and you should have a very sweet system.

Go with AMD, price to performance ratio kicks a$$. Plus the floating point unit on the AMD keeps it ahead of the pentium on alot of benchmarks.

AMD is basically more bang for the buck. So basically you are getting a faster processor (even though the clock speed could be slower) and be paying less. It is a wierd concept of how all that works but if you read some tech websites maybe you would understand it, because I am still a bit confused on how it works myself. But go with AMD, the only thing intel is good for is the server market and they are about to loose that. Sucks for them.

It works like this :

A processor has clock cycles (mhz) and an instruction set.

The processor speed is found my multiplying the amount of clock cycles by the amount of instructions .

For example :

A clock speed of 100mhz that does 5 instructions per mhz gives a speed of 500...

A clock cycle of 75mhz that does 10 instructions per mhz gives a speed of 750 ..

Basically ...

Intel = High clock cycles but low instructions
AMD = Low clock cycle but higher instructions.
