Help
Ok so i got back from work and turned on my computer and it went straight to bios and asked me to set the cpu MHZ speed, so i put it to what i put it to when i first made it. I then click save changes & exit and it rebooted and i just got a blank screen. I then turned it off and back on again, it went straight to the same thing, cpu speed. Its not loading anything but bios. It wont go to windows or nothing.
I am guessing and i HOPING its not my CPU Blown because i have no money to replace. Please Help! Specs : AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Running at 2100MHz Standard AMD Cooler ASUS X7V8X-X Motherboard. It was fine when i left before work, 4 hours ago, but now its gone fricking stupid. Thanks

relax, your cpu isnt blown, or the system wouldnt even get as far as the bio's
best bet would be to set the cpu speed at the LOWEST of the three options it gives you, maybe an idea to reset all your hard drives to auto detect as well. if it keeps going to the bios screen every boot, try replacing the batterey on the motherboard, as if the bios has no battery backup power, the asus board asumes that each boot is a freash build.

Ok i set it to 1100MHZ and set everything to auto detect and it has booted OK. I then set it to the original speed which is 2200mhz and it got past bios and went the the Device listings. Diskette Drive A, B, Pri. Master Disk, Slave etc then it went on to the table saying PCI device listing blah de blah. And it hangs on this screen. I then put it to 1885MHZ and it booted up fine no problem. Is that speed 1885 or so MHZ the right speed for a XP 2500+. I have no problems with the CPU speed at any of the other speeds but the 2200MHZ. I am going to replace my CPU cooler in the next week just incase its not powerfull enough or whatnot. When i changed the speed to 2200 there was red text on the right talking about the CPU Frequency and also about setting the memory frequency no higher than 333mhz or something along those lines. The CPU Frequency is 11.0x.
Got any ideas why it does not like 2200MHZ? THanks.

if you have one of the OLDER 2500 bartons (which are unlocked) you are lucky.
If you have a nice mobo that allows it, (like an Abit) then you should be able to change your FSB all the way to 200, provided you have good cooling and decent memory. I have an old Barton XP2500 set at FSB=200 , multiplier= 11 and it runs like a champ. my suggestion, leave your multiplier at 10 or 10.5 and just try bumping up your FSB a little. Your "normal" FSB is supposed to be 166
