Fsb
Quick question just to ease my brain. All documentation of my cpu and mobo say that the FSB is 800mhz, why is it when I go into my BIOS, and twittle around with the overclocking features, it allows me to tweak the fsb from 200mhz to 400mhz, or does this just mean im overclocking it 2-400 over the original 800?

The Front Side Bus (FSB) is the speed that the CPU communicates with the RAM. The latest Pentium 4 motherboard supplies an external frequency of 200MHz. The data is transfered four times per cycle giving an effective FSB of 800MHz. This is why you see the term quad pumped.
FSB = 4 x ExternalFrequency 400 = 4 x 100 533 = 4 x 133 800 = 4 x 200 |
