duron 1300
Hey guys - i have a duron 1300 which i bought for my ms-6340 mobo which has an fsb of 100mhz. this duron has an fsb of 100 2. so i reckoned if i updated my bios (which i did) all would be well. But when i put in this new cpu - the pc starts and stays on but the screen does not display anything. I was wondering if any gurus out there would please help me. My specs are:
At the moment im running an athlon 852 mhz wanting the duron 1300 to run. geforce4 mx-440 sp 320 megs ram 133mhz sd win xp home edition service pack 1 |

sounds like the settings in the bios are in conflict, there will be a jumper or two solder points on the board for clearing the cmos, this resets the bios to its default values and should enable you to at least get into the bios to set the proper values.
as far as architechture goes, the info i can find on your board suggests it will run athlon xp chips, so a duron 1300 shouldnt be a problem

only 2 things it could be imo,
1. the 1300 duron is dead. 2. the bios settings wont allow you to boot the machine with the duron in. if you have reset the bios back to its default settings using the clear cmos jumper, chances are its a dead cpu.

Are you saying that you get NOTHING on your screen??? not even the posting???
Lastime this happened to me (it was with a new AthlonXP 1800) the computer turned on (the cpu fan and case fans, and all mobo lights were on, but I could get nothing on the screen--no post screen...nada....this turned out to be a bad CPU. Returned it and got a replacement and everything worked fine. also...what is the rating of your PSU (power)?? Put your old chip back in..if everything starts up with no problem, then I would suspect your duron is faulty.

your 400w PSU is more than adequate (but I suspect you already knew that...LOL)
Try putting your old processor back in. If your puter boots up, then it is a pretty sure bet that the 1300 duron is the problem, and needs to be returned for replacement. (I am making the assumption here that the processor is basically the ONLY thing that you have changed....you have not changed memory sticks, etc.) Even so....I would suspect a bad cpu.
