I don't know if Linux is meant for 'users'... Unix in general was meant for developers, people who understand the system, who write it...
Unix has so many things you 'can' adjust and handle that it is not suitable for a normal user, I would say.
Maybe my idea about Unix is not realy that presentative these days, but my experience at the university is that people run to the NT boxes first, instead of Sun's or Linux machines to read their Hotmail... (<sigh>)
