I found the install log of the software I installed. Guess and test method rooted out one dll out of about 30 that it installed. So now that the stop error is fixed, I create myself another problem. I now want to get rid of the multiboot setup. Here's what I've done.
1) formatted drive d to wipe it clean
2) changed the boot.ini to this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
Again, here is my desired setup:
two physical drives, c (primary) and d (slave)
os boots from c, d is for storage only
From my knowledge, this sure be the ticket, yet I still get a "ghost" second entry on the os selection menu on bootup. The menu reads:
"Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" <--this is the one that is right....and
"Windows 2000 (default)" <--bad
The default choice is always on the incorrect bottom entry. I want to boot into 2k on c everytime with no boot menu.
Thanks in advance for any helpful tips or suggestions that you might have

Updated:
That second bad entry produces the following error and refuses to go any further:
"Windows 2000 couldn't start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows 2000 root>\system32\notoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file."
I also hit F8 to enter the advanced startup menu and then selected "boot normally" to see which entry it would choose. It chose the the bottom, incorrect entry, therefore I cannot simply hide the boot menu or set the time to zero. I only have one entry displayed as shown here:
I've search the knowledge base, but haven't found anything yet. I hope some one can help me do something short of formatting and reinstalling everything. Thanks!!

Update #2
After hunting through the knowledge base, I had a small amount of luck. I tried the fixboot command from the repair console on the cd, which rebuilds the boot.ini file. I also used the automatice repair utility which checks the boot.ini file and other startup processes. At this point, I have exhuasted every known avenue that I can think of besides formating (I am begining to think that even that will not cure it!), so I will await some replies (hopefully). Perhaps if you yourself cannot help, you might know someone that could. It looks like Gates has won again. Many many thanks
