What ^I^ use quite successfully is AVG, Ad-Watch, CookieWall, SpyBot, and PopUp Killer. I run these all the time and they consume so little resources that I don't usually have any problems. I run that many because there's always something that isn't caught by one that will be caught by the other. After a session of surfing I run Cookies Manager and clean up all the cookies missed by CookieWall, then I run Ad-Aware, then SpyBot and I round it all out by running the registry fixer in FixIt Utilities.

I know that sounds like a lot of effort but believe me it's a lot easier on your mind than having to answer a firewall all the time when it ask if it should or should not allow something or other that you probably don't recognize in the first place.

I've got a firewall (Outpost) and I occasionally run it but only when I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I ^need^ to. Firewalls are all very nice but they can really be a pain and slow your system and your surfing down to a virtual crawl.
