Ya might wanna get a copy of Partition Magic. Sometimes the software that comes with the HDD doesn't quite do the job. I have had to go into Partition Magic and reallocate the space on a disk that I had just installed. It's really easy with PM.
And as far as the merger goes, I think if you read
this thread I think it will help you understand what happened.
