If you find out let me know. I am a Suncom subscriber, and I just found out that my new phone is equipped to act as a modem. As far I know, the phone is the key. Has to do with signal wavelength and other supertech crap. You know how cell phones use node sites and pretty much signal jump from one node to the next based on strength? Well, that same reason limits the use of a cell phone to connect to the internet (unless stationary) . Apparently, now there is a way to remain connected while traveling over a said distance. -That's all I know-
