Easy solution for problem #1.
Install the XP TweakUI powertool that I have attached to this post.
This will add Tweak UI to your Control panel (and also to your start menu)
Run Tweak UI and you will see an
autologin setting. Just fill in the blanks and presto, the next time you start XP you will be automatically logged on, bypassing the login screen.
(should you ever need to get back to the login screen--say you want to change to the administrator-- then just use your START-> logoff-> switch User command to bring it up.:smilewink
