Thanks for the support Igalan...

I've got Ghost lying around somewhere so I'll take an image and try the AOL modem properly again (and then call AOL for support). I've just received an email from AOL about generic router settings so I'll check these as well though eg:
- Connection Protocol: PPPoE (VCMUX or VCBASED)
- VPI: 0
- VCI: 38
- Auth: CHAP
- MTU: 1400
... but these shouldn't have changed anyway since it was working in the first place.

I was worried my system got infected or something (being too cocky with mIRC recently) and that this had messed up my network settings - or someone/thing had tinkered with my router settings.

It's certainly got me thinking about getting a proper system backup in place as I was considering a full rebuild.
