One of the things that most helped me to get my system up and running after upgrading my computer was the Windows XP unattended install. I created a CD with SP2, applied WindowsUpdates, added the newest drivers, etc. With it I got my system up and running with a few clicks in less than 1h, then all I had to do was install my favourite applications and run the assistant to transfer configurations from another computer (which I already saved on an external HD).
