Is it a sound from the speakers or the PCspeaker? What happens if you just try do disable all sounds in Windows Control Panel->Sounds and choose a NoSounds scheme? Or could it be the Sticky keys option of Windows (XP afaik) when you press a key 5 times or hold it down for a few second?
That's all I can think of now... hope to bring some ideas
