NEVER, EVER buy a Celeron, unless you get it for dirt cheap.
AMD's are often around the same price, and are MUCH faster. In fact, you can often snag an Athlon 64 for pretty cheap...
For instance, you can snag an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ for $111, while a 2.8 Ghz Celeron (Which is nowhere NEAR as fast) is only $22 cheaper.
General rule of thumb that'll probably last for a few months:
Intel for a laptop, AMD for a Desktop.
AMD's are faster, cheaper, and most nowadays are 64 bit, wheras if you want a laptop the Pentium M (And the rest of the 'Centrino' chipsets) are fast (Faster than a Pentium 4 at the same clock, actually) and low-power.
