Uhm, ok, you got it running, cool... Now I see your problem.
Now I am no window manager/X expert, since I hardly use it. It looks as if you start the default Xfree/Xorg window manager, which is not the one that you expect. I can't imagine fedora putting that one as default, the installation at my work uses the Gnome Display Manager by default (GDM). Check if /etc/init.d/gdm status tells you that GDM is running. Maybe you want KDM, then you can do the same. Basically I think it is possible to do a kdeinit for instance so you get all the surrounding panels and stuff.
