Correction: acording to the asus manual there are three ways you can run this board with dual channel memory:
1. use the two bottom blue slots (as you suggested)

2. use the top and bottom slot. (this also gives dual channel)

3. use all three slots (with the exact same size and brand)


You need to have the exact size and brand for dual channel to work in any option I mentioned above. You cannot have a kingston 512 mb 333mhz in one channel and a kingston 256mb 333mhz in the other. It just won't work for dual channel.
