OK, GREAT NEWS. Our member was able to completely recover his files from his DEAD harddrive. (I was more than a little skeptical)

There are 2 versions of this program... 1 for FAT and 1 for NTFS.
He used the FAT version.
Here is the feedback he gave to me (to share with you):

GetdataBack feedback
Hi!
Sorry it took too long.
GetDataBack is one of the best lifesavers ever created. I haven't encountered a lot but I'm willing to bet anything that this product belongs up there! It should be called The Resuscitator or Rescue 911. It is definitely a must-have - especially for ulra-tweakers like you.
I have no idea how it works but it restored 99+% of the data contained in my busted HDDs (I've already used it on two).
Using it is prettly easy even for a novice like me. It's almost automatic except for a few clicks on the next button (like being guided by a wizard). It's almost impossible to mess-up. In case you do mess-up or you're not satisfied with the restoration job, you can always re-do the whole thing because it doesn't do it's thing in the hdd being scanned.
The steps are:
1. Scan(search) for (possible) drvies.
The choices are already ticked. You just un-tick choices you don't want found. I leave it as is.
2. Select source.
Here you select the physical drive, logical drive (have no idea what it is), Image files, Arrangement files, Physical remote drives to recover data from.
3. Select range and file system.
You can either search the whole drive or just part of it.
You can also select FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32. It is my practice not to tamper with things I don't understand so I left it at FAT32(default).
4. Select file system
DUH. I just clicked on next.
5. Recovery Tree.
VIOLA! My files as I saw them before they went inaccessible. Here you can check the integrity of the file through the built-in viewer or you can run it through it's associated program. But it is not restored yet; what you see is just an image of the restoration job. You still have to select the files you want to recover and copy/restore them to your working hdd (there is a warning not to copy the files to the hdd being scanned).
Now if only GetDataBack can format an hdd which cmos does not detect. But I'm already more than satisfied with the results. After all, I Got my Data Back!
The whole process took only a few minutes and my baby's minutes-old pics have been recovered. Joshua (my baby) is now 3months old and I am confident that I will be able to show him these pics when he's grownup. Thanks to LPDad and Igalan! Thanks to GetDataBack!
I also downloaded mrgorilla's 50MB proggy but I haven't burned it on cd yet. Thanks to him just as well.
In the meantime, I will go back to being an anonymous visitor again watching you guys make very good use of this wonderful facility that it available to everybody.
Thank you very much,
JP
